Research interests:

Prof. Edo Bar-Zeev is an applied and environmental microbiologist, focusing on bacterial consortiums in natural and man-made systems. Specifically, his interdisciplinary interests include: (i) The dynamic nature of bioaggregates in marine and freshwater environments; (ii) Biofilms and biofouling in artificial systems as well as; (iii) The nexus of desalination and wastewater treatment with coastal ecosystems.

Affiliation:

Associate Prof. at the Department of Environmental Hydrology & Microbiology, Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research (ZIWR), The Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR), Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel.

Active research in the Mediterranean:

  1. The impact of oil spills on the desalination industry.
  2. Biochemical cycles related to bioaggregates in marine and freshwater environments.

The development of Mediterranean research:

The Mediterranean Sea is a valuable asset to us all. My vision is that Mediterranean research will have to become much more holistic, integrating tighter interactions between scientists from physicochemical, biological, and various technological fields. Thus, I would seek to strengthen research collaborations between marine and technological scientists, while sharing ship time, analytical expertise, and knowledge outcomes.
