Eyal Wurgaft is a chemical oceanographer. His main areas of research are the oceanic carbon cycle and buffer system. He uses DIC, alkalinity, stable isotopes, and other chemical and physical properties. Eyal leads a study on the effect of heterogeneous reactions between suspended particles and dissolved species in the carbonate chemistry of the Gulf of Aqaba (Eilat), and the Gulf of Mexico. He also studies the effects of sponges on carbon dynamics in the Mediterranean, and the formation of dolomite in marine sediments. Eyal also works on ways in which seawater and carbonate rocks (limestone) can be used to decrease carbon dioxide emissions.
